Jamie Hunter: a tenacious problem solver joins the collective

Meet Jamie, a freelance Marketing Operations consultant based in Montana with a passion for solving problems and helping organizations succeed, as well as for the great outdoors. Jamie has always been drawn to the consulting path, and she found a perfect match in EMMIE, a female-led agency that prioritizes flexibility, wellness, and work-life balance.

Jamie Hunter

This is my dream job!

Jamie began consulting in October 2022 when she realized that she could bring value to many organizations, not just one. After thinking about becoming a consultant for two years and consulting with other professionals in her network, Jamie made the leap of faith and pursued her dream job, and she has not looked back since.

Jamie primarily works in Marketo and Salesforce, but she also has experience with Pardot and other third-party tools that integrate with Marketo and Salesforce. Marketo is her favorite platform because of its sophistication and robust functionality.

Marketo is essentially a giant playground that helps organizations solve problems, connect the dots, and report on the success of problem solving!

In general, Jamie loves auditing marketing and sales data, understanding how it flows to and from CRM, and finding ways to optimize that data exchange to utilize it across marketing and sales teams for a greater purpose. Her second favorite type of work is sharing and training marketers what is possible within Marketo to help teams up-level creative marketing campaigns and solve operational problems.

Jamie has worked on many cool projects, but two of her favorites are sending a direct mail gift to targeted customers around the holiday timeframe and setting up an automated closed lost opportunity nurture in Marketo for contacts flagged as the contact role on the opportunity. For the direct mail gift, both marketing and sales were involved in the outreach cadences, which was orchestrated beautifully. The campaign showed how a true partnership between marketing and sales can lead to great marketing campaign results and closed won deals. For the automated closed lost opportunity nurture, personalizing the email content and striking at the right time generated over 30 new opportunities from this nurture alone.

Personalizing the email content and striking at the right time can be very advantageous, and using automation to do it made it even more fun!

Jamie believes that the most misunderstood part of what she does is that her expertise is layered and knows no boundaries. It is ever-changing, and she is constantly put to the test with her technical knowledge in software she is proficient in as well as software that she is not proficient in.

My parents try so hard to understand what I do. They just say I do intense marketing work that has its own language.

So how did Jamie land her dream job?

Jamie enjoys freelancing as it gives her the opportunity to lead and execute on projects from start to finish. Before she started freelancing, Jamie was a Director at a SaaS company and found herself drained from all the back-to-back meetings each day with little output, coupled with feeling disappointed with how much of her day turned to administrative work. She missed getting her hands “dirty” in the marketing automation software and martech stack and actually “doing” the work.

A typical day in Jamie’s life includes waking up around 7 am, feeding her pup, making coffee/breakfast, turning on some relaxing music, and opening up her laptop to start work for a few hours. She then takes her dog for a walk or a hike midday after eating some lunch. Jamie hops back online mid-afternoon to wrap up any other work projects for the day for a couple of hours and then makes dinner with her boyfriend and winds down for the evening.

Jamie's biggest strength as a consultant is that she is a tenacious problem solver. She presents the best option(s) to solve her clients' problems based on their goals and current resources available, and she prides herself on being creatively resourceful to meet her clients' objectives.

Her dream client is one that has people who are fun to work with and are open to testing and trying new and exciting ideas and technology to up-level their marketing programs.

Who is the woman outside of MOPs?

When Jamie isn't working, you can find her outside with her golden retriever, hiking, camping, backpacking, and cross-country skiing. She also loves traveling the world and learning about new cultures. If she could live anywhere in the world, she would choose Spain, a place she fell in love with during her visit to Barcelona in 2017.

If Jamie wasn't a consultant, she would be running a doggy day care or a rescue animal shelter. She is passionate about animal welfare and loves nothing more than spending time with her furry friends.

One of my proudest achievements in life is honoring myself by not settling with mediocre situations and always pushing myself to find my peace. Being as independent as I am, if I was unsettled or not at peace with a job or finances or a relationship, I pushed hard to change my situation. I have been blessed with wonderful people in my life who have encouraged me to make the decisions that felt right for me, and for that I am so grateful. Being at peace with my ‘big life’ decisions is one of my proudest achievements as I had to fight for it.

Jamie's vision for the future involves a farmhouse in Montana with her husband, two golden retrievers, and two or three kids. She sees herself tending to her garden, hiking, and enjoying the great outdoors. Family is everything to Jamie, and she feels blessed to have such supportive parents and siblings and she adores being an auntie to her five nephews and one niece.

When Jamie met Emmie

Jamie first heard about EMMIE through Sydney, a connection she made on LinkedIn. She admired Sydney's content and willingness to help others and was excited to join the team when the time was right. Since starting with EMMIE, Jamie is thrilled to be part of such a talented group of professionals and have a team to connect with regularly.

I freelance with EMMIE because this agency embodies all of the values that drove me to the consulting path. I want to work hard and be flexible.

Overall, Jamie is a vibrant and dedicated individual with a passion for consulting and the great outdoors. Her dedication to her work and her love for her furry friends and family make her a unique and valuable addition to the collective.
